　　In this one hour documentary, Tony Livesey sets out to rescue Crumpet from the condescension of history. Recalling his own childhood, growing up in front of the TV in a Burnley terrace, Tony takes us on a trip through three decades of popular culture. How did our thirty year fascination with Crumpet come about – and why did it end? What does it say about the unique British sense of humour - and about our changing attitude to sex?       为了庆祝英国同志除罪化40年（意即将同志间私人的性行为不视为犯罪行为的《Wolfenden Report》，即《武芬登报告》，公开实施40年），英国电视台Channel 4特别开了一系列名为「Channel 4's gay season celebrating 40 years of legalisation of homosexuality」（简称《40 Years Out》）的特别节目，透过类戏剧丶电视电影和纪录片……等手法，为观众娓娓道来这40年来属于英国同志们的各式辛酸与欢笑。而打头阵的，则是以 1955年的Peter Wildeblood事件为核心的《A Very British Sex Scandal》，借由穿插访谈与旁白的仿纪录片手法，回顾对英国同志们而言最重要的关键时刻。

    故事以Peter Wildeblood（Martin Hutson饰演）在Piccadilly Circus巧遇Eddie McNally（Sam Heughan饰演）开场，分成双线叙事。一方面以Wolfenden Committee的进行作为隐形叙事线，不断安插当时受访的各阶层人民对同志的看法，以及展现评议会在做出这份关键报告过程中所倾听到的声音；另一方面则回过头来，随时序带领着观众一同坠入两人相恋的过程，并适时地于关键时刻引入相关／当事者对当时情况的回忆，更增添戏剧的可信度。

    虚实相掩的安排下，作为结尾的法庭戏，格外显得真切而动人。在当时，英国仍把同志间的性行为视为犯法的堕落行为（剧中多用「buggery」 = 「jijian」这字眼来定义他们的犯罪行为），每年都有百多人因此被入狱服监，因此，当原本仅是地下情的同志恋情被揭露，而对象竟是能获得媒体关注与大众焦点的大人物时，这个事件在当时成了家喻户晓的头条新闻之一。或许，最初Peter向Eddie借火时，未曾想过这把火将蔓烧整个英国南部（英格兰与威尔斯），成了改变英国同志一生命运的火种吧。

    现在看来，不过就是身为事件中心的人物──Edward Montagu（或称Lord Montagu of Beaulieu，由Orlando Wells饰演）邀请了Peter Wildeblood和Eddie McNally一起到他的海边别墅度假个几天，刚好McNally带了军中的朋友John Reynolds（Karl Davies饰演）一同前往，而稍晚……则比预期的「多喝了点酒」罢了，结果，当天下午某几张泳裤着身的露点照，就这么成了关键的淫荡证据。而两人关起门来在床上做爱做的事，则让法庭判决两个大人诱奸小孩子做出违反善良风俗的犯罪行为，各判12和18个月，牢饭伺候！

    Wildeblood在狱中被关了整整一年后获释，当时帮他接风的是Kenneth Tynan（英国戏剧／剧评家）和大学同窗Patrick Thursfield。1955年，Wildeblood以自己在狱中的经历写成了《Against the Law》一书，并参与著名的Wolfenden Committee，亦即后来于1957年所发表的《Wolfenden Report》（武芬登报告）（关于这部份小爷很推荐大家去看ＢＢＣ４在2007年9月制播的《Consenting Adults》，刚好和这片有互补的功效）。在这之后，Wildeblood一方面持续小说写作，一方面则活跃于剧场与电视领域。后来他搬到多伦多成了电视制作人，并成为加拿大公民。
